Wallpaper and Wall Textures!

Here in Texas most of the walls are "textured." If you're from the East Coast like me then this may seem crazy and foreign to you. I had no idea that walls could even be made in a texture! Apparently they can be orange peel, knockdown, splatted, combed, etc. Who knew! I fought this tooth and nail, and even offered to pay extra for smooth walls and was repeatedly told no. They said they would only do smooth walls in a small area or one wall that we were planning on wallpapering. Oddly enough they didn't believe me when I said I was planning on wallpapering the whole house ;).

One area I am certain will be wallpapered is the powder room. I want to give it a major punch since it's such a small space. I to chose something I'm going to love years down the road because the thought of peeling and re-wallpapering makes me break out in hives. Fun fact. . . other than the rental townhouse and current apartment I've painted every room of every house we've ever lived in. And honestly I paint the hallways and stairwells in our homes about once every few months. The handprints and smudges drive me crazy! I get it from my Mom. I actually remember her negotiating down the price of a rental if she promised to paint and wallpaper the whole house. Go Mom! So my Mom will be flying in after closing, and we'll be painting and wallpapering while singing and dancing for likely several days. That's most likely when this house will start to feel like a home to me! Toll Brothers charges $800/room regardless of its size to paint it. No thank you.

Back to wallpaper. . . I knew I wanted classic and neutral but not boring. I wanted something with depth, dimension, texture and visual interest. Important for a powder room right? ;)

I started out with the typical Home Depot type sites, but just couldn't find what I was looking for. Then I transitioned into more specialized wallpaper sites. I'm pretty sure by this point I have seen every wallpaper currently in production! These were a few of my favorite specialized sites:

Samantha Santana: Great peel and stick choices that you can change easily if you have a commitment problem :) and regular wallpaper too. These were just a little too feminine for me and not quite the direction I wanted for this room.

Ann Jackson: Y'all these look like watercolor paintings. They're stunning! My issue was that they were slightly too abstract and I thought may be too busy for such a small space.

Cole & Son: When I came to this site I knew my search was over. The Antique Mirror Paper has enough interest while still being neutral and it gives off a vintage, old world vibe. I actually got excited about it!

Now to figure out if any other walls or areas in the house need to be smooth for wallpaper. I already know a wall in Caroline's room is getting a special treatment and maybe one in the master bedroom as well. Maybe my laundry room needs a kick of color?! One of those Samantha Santana prints may be perfect. . .

I can't wait to see how this little powder room comes to life!
