Living Room Couch

Adam and I have been through our fair share of couches in our 15 years of marriage. First we had hand me down couches that served their purpose for a short time. When we moved to Virginia Adam wanted leather furniture that reclined. Uh huh. . . I caved when we found some that was actually pretty streamlined looking, and I have to say I didn't regret that decision one bit after Caroline was born, and I spent many long nights and days reclined with her asleep on my chest. But by the time we moved all of the cushions slanted to the middle and it went to live with my brother. Plus it weighed a small ton. We moved back to Georgia and bought a Pottery Barn sofa that I adored, but sadly the quality was horrible, and it lasted about a year before we had to rearrange the furniture so that no one was required to sit on that sofa.
Adam is a big guy. He was an Olympic shot-putter before Peter Pan hung up his tights. He's like a brick wall. He's also so so hard on furniture. A big guy, 2 munchkins and 2 dogs (who aren't allowed on the furniture but I've caught them both on it several times!) make choosing and buying the piece of furniture you'll use the most very difficult.
We originally talked about a sectional. I love the idea from a comfort stand point, but I'm not sure our layout allows it. We have the main entry to the house that ties into the living room on one side, a two story fireplace with built ins on another side, french doors along the back of the room and lastly it opens to the kitchen. It's a difficult space to lay out the furniture while also keeping it open to "traffic." I think the sectional will close off too much of the room.

So we're going with a slightly longer than normal couch, and Adam wants leather again. I'm on the fence but with a neapolitan mastiff rescue and her slobber it's probably not a bad idea. One piece of leather that doesn't recline I'm good with ;). I searched for inspiration and this picture spoke to me. This is what I want it to feel like, but not necessarily look like, when all comes together:

I've decided to do a Chesterfield sofa in a brown leather. I'm going to omit nailheads though from the traditional type Chesterfield. I've narrowed it down to these two. Either one will be in this leather:

This one is from Roger & Chris:
Or this one from CoCoCo Home:
Now for a loveseat, chairs, a coffee table, and accent tables. . . . This is so much fun!
